Dental Veneers

We often hear people say that celebrities have veneers and this may seem the best way to replicate picture perfect teeth and smile.

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneer is a thin custom-made shell of tooth colored material designed to cover the front surface of the tooth to improve the aesthetics or to protect the tooth’s surface from damage. These also help to change the tooth shape, size and color or slight position alteration.

What is the procedure for getting dental veneers?

Getting dental veneers includes the following steps

Visiting your dentist is the first step.  You see, a dental veneer consultation helps us learn more about you.  It also helps us discover which dental veneer option is right for you.

We ask questions like:

  1. Is there another option besides veneers that will work better?
  2. Should this person get dental veneers or a teeth whitening?
  3. Are there other more affordable options besides dental veneers?

During your first visit your dentist will also perform a smile analysis.  This helps us understand your needs.  A smile analysis is simple. We ask ourselves, how do we help you bring out your smile.  We work hard to make your smile a reality.  Along with the smile analysis, your dentist might perform a “mock-up”.  A mock-up helps you visualize the final results.  Why wait months for results.  We can show you your future smile today.

Lumineers, Vivaneers, Minimal and No Prep Dental Veneers

There are several minimal preparation and “no prep” veneer options including Lumineers available for cosmetic dentistry patients. These veneers are bonded with adhesive to the facial surface of the teeth and this process requires minimal to no grinding of the teeth. However, these products may not be suitable for everyone.

The first veneer consultation is followed by a preparation visit, here the dentist will decide between tooth preparation veneers and no preparation veneers. Accordingly .5-1 mm of enamel from tooth surface will be trimmed. Next the dentist will take an impression and make the dental models. The models will be sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication of veneers. It takes 1-2 weeks to receive the veneers from the laboratory, in the meantime temporary veneers can be placed on the teeth.

The final step is the bonding of the veneer. Before the permanent cementing, a mock try-in will be done to check the fit and the aesthetics. The tooth is then cleaned, polished and etched and the veneer is placed with special cement. This is followed by cleaning the excess of cement and adjusting the bite.
